The University of Tasmania’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), Understanding Dementia, draws upon the expertise of neuroscientists, clinicians and dementia care professionals in the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre. Carers kit now ready for use

The new and improved Carers Kit is now available! The kit has instructions to help carers by providing simple instructions on how to perform basic tasks safely, including how to use bath and shower stools and how to help people in and out of cars. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease – new self management action plans

Lung Foundation Australia has just released its updated COPD Action Plan.
Action plans are a valuable self-management tool to guide patients in recognising when their symptoms change and what action they should take at that time.
The latest version has included a ‘Feeling Sick’ section to make it easier for patients to know when to commence antibiotics or prednisolone. The three-page PDF also includes a step-by-step guide to writing a COPD Action Plan which will assist General Practitioners who are new to using them.
The plans are available as an editable PDF or in RTF to be imported in to medical software and are available here:

The easiest way to claim Carers allowance

Palliative Care Victoria and Palliative Care Australia have been advocating to make it easier for people to lodge an intent to claim a Carers Allowance or Carers Payment with the Commonwealth Department of Human Services.
